Wool

Wool was the single most common fabric used in the 18th century. It comes in a range of grades and qualities and was used for all kinds of clothing.

100% Wool

Broad Cloth is the highest quality, commonly used for men's breeches, waistcoats, jackets and coats.

Worsted is a lightweight summer twilled fabric, used for men's breeches, coats, waistcoats and jackets, and for women's gowns, jackets and petticoats.

Flannel is a soft fabric used for underwear and for items such as neck cloths and sleeve ruffles. Men also used it for shirts and waistcoats, and women also used it for gowns.

Bag Hose is a hard-to-find wool used for Scottish trews and hose.

Wool Blends

Jean Cloth is the coarsest of the wool blends, a weave combining cotton and wool. It was commonly used for men's trousers.

Linsey Woolsey is a weave combining linen and wool, and was used for all kinds of garment, especially by the poor.
