In The Pennsylvania Packet of 1783 "Ran away . . .  an Irish servant Girl . . .  Had on and took with her, a green skirt, dark calicoe short gown, white stockings, leather shoes with low heels, two striped lincey petticoats, a striped red calicoe short gown" as cited in Wives, Slaves, and Servant Girls.
