Crewel needles are similar to sharps in that they have a sharp point but they have a larger eye. They work well when hand sewing with 35/2, 50/3, and 16/2 linen thread. Crewel needles are used for crewel embroidery, embroidery with multiple threads, and may also be used for making thread buttons. Thread buttons really don't need a sharp point but are best made of coarser thread so that the large eye works well. Using this needle you may make the thread button then sew it directly to the garment.
