This mylar bias and stand lace was used throughout the 18th and 19th centuries for officer's lace. During the 18th century each officer went to his own tailor for clothing. As a result, there was no regulation officer's lace, and the same 1/2" (12.7 mm) silver lace on an officer's coat could also be found on civilian clothing.
