This lace is identical to that found on an original American 1812 drummer's coat at Locust Grove Historical Site in Kentucky. Single vellum lace was used from the mid 18th to mid 19th centuries for British military uniforms. During the 18th century each officer went to his own tailor for clothing. As a result, there was no regulation officer's lace, and the same 1/4" (6.35 mm) silver lace on an officer's coat could also be found on civilian clothing. This silver lace is made of real silver.
