Coarse Linen Sacking WLG 122

$11.50

100% linen, 40" wide

Coarse linen with large slubs but a fairly tight weave was commonly used to make sacks. Washington had all his sacks stamped to stop his slaves from cutting them into clothing. Other uses include a bolster, kettle bags, large wallets and chair seats. For example in The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, London in 1769 a trial record included, "I saw him in a boat with the sacks marked with my name at length." Later they stated the purpose of the sacks, "I found my boat with four sacks of malt in her." Unbleached linen thread for this would be best hand sewing using 16/2.
