100% wool, 57" wide
Being a thick wool this will best be made into a warm greatcoat or woman's cloak. But it could be used for a man's coat, jacket or breeches. For example in The Providence Gazette of 1775, "who in the Night of the 20th of February last stole from him a valuable bay Horse, which they afterwards sold at Windham, in Connecticut . . . [one of the thiefs] wore . . . a red lappelled Broadcloth Coat" by personal communication with Mike Barbieri. Red 35/2 linen thread and both 1/2" and 7/8" worsted wool tape matches this fabric. For sewing button holes try scarlet silk button hole twist or quilter's thread.
