Pair of Shoe Buckles BCS126

BCS126 buckles are copies of an original dated ca. 1745 found in the Custis family well in Williamsburg. The buckle (only one was found) may have been the property of Martha Dandridge Custis' (later Washington) father-in-law. It was solid silver and bore wear on one edge from being crossed and rubbed against something by its owner. It will accommodate a strap of up to 1 1/4" which is the size for most men's shoes. The overall dimensions are about 2" by 2 1/2".
