James Polished Silver Many buckles were made of sterling silver. These are an imitation metal that will retain a brilliant shine without the need of polishing. These will accommodate a latchet of 1 1/2" with an overall size of 1 3/4" by 2 1/2". They are fashionable for 1750s to 1780s wear.
In the 1775 New England Chronicle the public was asked to "STOP a VILLAIN.--A Young Man . . . he wore . . . a pair of silver shoe buckles" from personal communication with Mike Barbieri.
