Coating Brown WWV 594

90% wool/10% cashmere, ~15 oz., 56" wide

This is a thinly woven, firm dark chocolate colored woolen with a good nap on both sides. This might be called a superfine although it is not as tight and firm. Brown broadcloths are very commonly described in the 18th and early 19th centuries. In The Connecticut Courant in 1774, "Run away . . .  a servant boy . . .  has on . . .  a brown out side jacket, an old cloth colour’d under ditto" cited in personal communication with Mike Barbieri. Brown 35/2 linen thread is a good match for hand sewing. For hand sewing button holes try the brown quilter's thread or buttonhole twist.
