Empire gown dress is a transitional style garment that often had an apron-fronted dress. The bodice which falls directly beneath the bust opens in the front and is lined with white cotton. The front of the self bodice has two sets of draw strings. When the drawstrings are tied, a gathering front bodice is created while the back bodice is fitted. The sleeves are very long and narrow with a turned-under hem.
