BCS 130 Pair of Shoe Buckles

$36.00

Steel shoe buckles appear to be very common. Similar buckles have been found at Fort Ticonderoga, New York, Fort Michilimackinac, Michigan, Fort Quiatenon, Indiana, and on the French ship “Machault” that was sunk in the St. Lawrence River in 1760. In The New-Jersey Journal of 1779 “an apprentice girl . . .  had on and took away with her . . .  old pumps with steel buckles” is cited in Wenches, Wives and Servant Girls. This shoe buckle will accommodate a relatively small strap of up to 1 1/4″. This is a good size for a women’s shoe or an early 18th century man’s shoe. The overall dimensions are 2″ x 1 5/8″.
