Wool with a soft full nap on one side is well suited to a man’s coat, jacket or breeches or woman’s cloak. For example in The New-London Gazette of 1773, “Ran away . . . an Apprentice Boy . . . had on . . . crimson broadcloth Breeches” by personal communication with Mike Barbieri. Red 35/2 linen thread and both 1/2″ and 7/8″ worsted wool tape matches this fabric. For sewing button holes try scarlet silk button hole twist or quilter’s thread.
