Wool with a soft full nap on one side is well suited to men’s coats, greatcoats, jackets, waistcoats & breeches or for a woman’s cloak. For example in The New-London Gazette of 1773, “Ran away . . .  an Apprentice Boy . . .  had on . . .  crimson broadcloth Breeches” by personal communication with Mike Barbieri. Red 35/2 linen thread & red worsted wool tape matches this fabric. For sewing buttonholes try scarlet silk buttonhole twist or silk quilter’s thread.
