Dirty Brown (Tobacco) Linen, WLN 697
$3.50
100% Linen, ~5 oz, 50-54″ Wide
Brown linen was sometimes described for summer suits. A c. 1780 unlined linen jacket was found under the floor boards of a house. This jacket is now at The Connecticut Historical Society. For example in the Norwich Packet, of 1776 “Run-away . . . a Negro Man . . . Had on . . . a brown Linen Coat” as cited in personal communication with Mike Barbieri. Unbleached 35/2 linen thread is the closest match to this linen.
