Hand Knit English Red and White Striped Cap, #2
This striped outdoor cap is made for a size 26″ wide and is 10.5″ tall. Unlike Monmouth caps which appear to be worn by mariners and black slaves these caps are frequently seen in pictures of common English landsmen and sometimes sailors. Most often the striped caps are found with red white and blue stripes and is made of made of mule spun wool (mule spinning simulates hand spinning). Caps like these are depicted in artwork from the 1740s- 1790s.
