This c. 1775-1800 print of blue & natural white colors is copied from an original gown in the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum in Colonial Williamsburg worn by a member of the Moody family who lived in Williamsburg & Richmond, Virginia. The print was plate printed in the last quarter of the 18th century using a technique called “China blue.” For example in The Pennsylvania Gazette of 1772, “Ran away . . . an indented servant woman . . . had on when she went away, a . . .blue and white figured callico gown” is cited in Wives, Slaves, & Servant Girls. Off white 60/2 linen thread will work well for hand sewing this fabric.
