Pincloths were the predecessor to pinafores and were worn by young boys and girls to protect the child’s clothes and was used for play time, daytime, and meal time. This garment covers from the shoulders to the bottom of the gown, is loosely fitted, and ties in the back to cover virtually all of a child’s valuable clothes.
