Ribbed Gold Silk, WSV 189
$11.25
100% Silk, 55″ Wide
With gold weft threads & white warp threads you might think changeable which this isn’t but instead is woven with ribs running in the weft (across) direction. This suggests waistcoat, as many original waistcoats are of a similar color & with a fine ribbing. This could make a gown, or petticoat or either men’s or women’s jackets. As an example, in the book Wives, Slaves, & Servant Girls there is an entry for 1772 in The Pennsylvania Gazette, “Quarter-Master to Colonel de Linsing’s battalion of Hessian Grenadiers, who absconded . . . He had a connection with a young woman . . . [who] had on a yellow silk, when she went away.”. For hand sewing try buff 70 quilter’s thread.
