100% Wool, 60" Wide
This is a very fine light weight plain weave. Stuff is a very summer weight wool good for women's gowns, jackets, and petticoats, and men's jackets, waistcoats, coats and breeches. In The Virginia Gazette of 1774, "Run away . . . two convict servant women . . . one of them . . . has on a new pompadour gown" as cited in Wives, Slaves, and Servant Girls. Claret quilter's thread has a bit too much red but is as close match to this fabric for hand sewing buttonholes as we have. No linen thread really matches, all the red shades being way too red so unbleached 35/2 linen thread is likely the best.
